greatneck_check.jpg(Melville, N.Y.)–In keeping with its commitment to giving back to the community, TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, marked the openings of its newest Nassau County stores in Great Neck and Lawrence, N.Y., by donating $12,000 to local organizations through its charitable giving arm, the TD Charitable Foundation. The new stores also preserve a bit of local history in their large, colorful wall murals.

At the grand opening celebration of the new TD Bank store at 2 Great Neck Road in Great Neck, the TD Charitable Foundation presented a $5,000 grant to the Great Neck Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. The grant will help provide underserved children in the surrounding communities with access to the Center’s programs. Also at the grand opening, the TD Charitable Foundation provided $500 grants to Alert Engine Hook and Ladder and Hose Company No. 1, Inc., and the Village of Great Neck Plaza’s Historic Preservation Commission.

At the grand opening celebration of the new TD Bank store at 490 Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence, the TD Charitable Foundation presented a $5,000 grant to the Five Towns Community Center in support of programs and services dedicated to serving the needs of those who are economically, socially, educationally, and culturally disadvantaged.  The TD Charitable Foundation also provided a $500 grant to both the Lawrence Cedarhurst Fire Department and Camp Extreme, Inc.

The two new TD Bank stores also feature large, colorful wall murals that depict local historical scenes. The murals are created by enhancing and colorizing old black-and-white photos. The mural featured in the Great Neck store was created from a photo taken in 1920 and depicts the Nassau Fireman’s Parade as viewed from the intersection of Middle Neck and Beach Roads. The photo was provided to TD Bank courtesy of Great Neck Library Local History Collection.

The mural on display in the Lawrence store depicts the Southern Railroad of Long Island Engine #276 and a passenger train at Lawrence Station in 1874. The photo was provided to TD Bank courtesy of the Queens Borough Public Library, Long Island Division, Ron Ziel Collection.

Many local residents attended the grand opening celebrations, which featured free food and refreshments, music, exciting games and prizes, and many kids’ attractions. TD Bank is committed to continuing to grow and hire throughout the region.  The bank focuses on delivering legendary customer service by providing seven-day branch banking with extended hours, free Penny Arcade coin-counting machines, hassle-free products, free online banking and bill pay at www.tdbank.com, and treats for kids and dogs.
