Island Harvest Receives $20,000 Grant From Slomo And Cindy Silvian Foundation
February 23, 2010
(Mineola, N.Y.)—Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization, has for the second year in a row received a $20,000 grant from the Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation to help address the growing problem of hunger on Long Island.
The funding for Island Harvest will help provide much needed food and supplies for its network of food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency food programs across Long Island. A recent study found that an estimated 283,700 Long Islanders, including nearly 110,000 children face the risk of going hungry everyday. Nearly 65,000 individuals seek emergency food assistance in Nassau and Suffolk Counties each week.
“We are once again exceptionally grateful to the fund’s directors, the Honorable Jack Mackston, Daniel S. Komansky, Esq., and David Grossman, for selecting Island Harvest for this generous grant at a time when demand for food assistance continues to grow,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO, Island Harvest.
The Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation, established by the late Cindy Silvian, makes grants to organizations involved in charitable purposes, including education, programs that benefit children, medical care and research, and Jewish philanthropic endeavors.
