(New York,N.Y.)-Last week, Senate Republicans called for a bipartisan public hearing on the process and selection of a vendor to operate video lottery terminals at Aqueduct race track and Senate Democrats said they are considering it.  The serious questions and concerns related to the selection process must be answered in an open and transparent forum.

Now, according to a news report today, Governor Paterson has given vendors permission to redact or “black out” information from their documents before they are made public.  At a time when we need openness and transparency, it’s disturbing that the Governor is reportedly pushing to cover up information.

The people of this state, especially those in the community adjacent to the track, have a right to know if the best vendor for Aqueduct was selected and that the selection process was not tainted by political favoritism.  If information is covered up, we will never get a true answer to that question.
