Senator Young Calls For Expulsion Of Senator Monserrate
January 14, 2010
(Albany,N.Y.)-Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C-Olean) is demanding that Democrat Leader John Sampson put a resolution for the expulsion of Senator Hiram Monseratte on the Senate floor for a vote immediately.
Senator Young is a member of the New York State Senate Select Committee to Investigate the Facts and Circumstances Surrounding the Conviction of Hiram Monseratte on October 14, 2009.
“We’re back in session on January 19. Senator Sampson can bring up the resolution then. The entire Senate should have the opportunity to decide this matter quickly instead of dragging it on longer. It has been months since Senator Monseratte was convicted of a violent assault on Karla Giraldo. Our Select Committee has conducted a thorough, deliberative review and the conclusion is clear.”
“Domestic violence cannot be tolerated, and it is reprehensible that Senator Monseratte refused to cooperate with the committee. He needs to go.”
“The Senate is poised to do an overhaul of ethics laws, yet we have a Senator convicted of committing a violent crime in our midst. How can you reform ethics without dealing with his expulsion first?”
