gilroy_family.jpg(North Bellport,N.Y.)-Every time  Jennifer Gilroy thinks of her new Habitat for Humanity Home she knows she made the right decision to move her special daughter Mazzie,8, back to Long Island where they can be near family and friends.  At 10 a.m. her family and her new family of friends from Habitat for Humanity will join in a special ceremony at 536 Scherger Ave. in North Bellport to celebrate the dedication of her new home.

Gilroy placed many hours of sweat equity into other Habitat homes and soon learned that most Long Islanders would rather give than receive.  The Island Outreach Foundation and the Knapp family were joined by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, HSBC, Roux Inc., SMSC Corp, State Bank of Long Island and Teachers Federal Credit Union, all Long Island companies that provided money and volunteers to help build the Gilroy home.

Gilroy, a college graduate is currently trying to get into graduate school.  “Being chosen as a homesteader, a potential homeowner, I am filled with an overwhelming mix of emotions that I really don’t have the words to express to the full extent all of my gratitude for this opportunity. I am thrilled to be able to step up and work to help make this happen.  Everybody I have met so far through Habitat has been wonderful and I am very much looking forward to my daughter and I being able to really become a part of this community and take part in this entire experience. It is with all of my heart that I would like to thank each and every person involved with making this a reality,” she said.

She said she knew returning to Long Island from Nevada was the right thing to do for her family.  “Thanks to Habitat and our new friends Mazzie will have the family support circle she will need in coming years.”

Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry dedicated to building decent, affordable housing in partnership with low-income working families in Suffolk County.  Since 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk has helped to house 137 families.  For more information, visit www.habitatsuffolk.org
