santa.jpg(Long Island, N.Y.)–It’s magical and it only happens once a year. This past weekend, the doors to Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar® restaurants swung open wide–well before the lunch hour–to welcome the arrival of a very special guest: Santa Claus. While servers elfishly ran around placing breakfast at every table, kids of all ages got a sneak peek of the jolly man in the red suit. Record crowds of admiring fans came to have “Breakfast with Santa.” The event has been held each December for the past ten years at all Long Island and Northern and Central New Jersey Applebee’s as a fundraiser to benefit the USMC Toys for Tots Foundation.

“Every penny goes directly to the U.S. Marine Corps to purchase gifts for all age groups and bring a ray of hope to underprivileged children in our neighborhoods around the holidays,” says Kurt Pahlitzsch, Director of Operations for Applebee’s Long Island. “Even the staff donates their time so that kids in need can have a brighter holiday.”

To help generate additional donations for “Toys for Tots,” Applebee’s is also offering paper “gift packs” for $1 each. They will be sold through December 31st and displayed prominently within the restaurant. To purchase one or more “Toys for Tots” gift packs, stop by any Long Island Applebee’s. Applebee’s restaurants are located in: Baldwin, Bellmore, Hicksville, New Hyde Park, Valley Stream, Westbury and Woodmere in Nassau County; Bohemia, Brentwood, Commack, East Farmingdale, East Islip, Farmingville, Huntington, Lake Grove, Lindenhurst, Miller Place, N. Babylon, Patchogue, Riverhead and Shirley in Suffolk County.

While Santa heard the wishes of every boy and girl, the dreams of hundreds of underprivileged children throughout the community were also made real.
