(Mineola, N.Y.) Headlining Long Island Pulse Magazine’s November cover party recently was Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. LI Pulsepublisher and editor Nada Marjanovich was joined by veteran stage and film star Brian Dennehy in saluting Island Harvest’s efforts of ending hunger on Long Island. Dennehy, a longtime Island Harvest supporter, has won two Tony Awardsfor Best Lead Actor in a Play, for his performances in Death of a Salesman and Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night in 2003.
Sharing the evening with Dennehy, a Long Island native was LI Pulse’s advertisers and readers in supporting Island Harvest’s endeavors and was seen as a remarkable way to kick off the holiday season and celebrate the shared sense of goodwill that filled the rooms at upscale Chelsea Mansion in Muttontown.
“Partnering with Island Harvest in their fundraising efforts is an honor,” said Ms. Marjanovich. “Their noble work is a much needed contribution to the Long Island region.”
Dennehy, who recounted his own experience seeing a young girl who didn’t have enough to eat at home added, “It’s unfortunate that in this day and age we still have Americans who go hungry every day, but fortunately we have organizations like Island Harvest, and supporters like Nada Marjanovich, to lend a hand and bring the issue to the forefront and actively and aggressively tackle the problem.”
Island Harvest extends special thanks to LI Pulse and its vendors who donated their food, time and supplies. Among those were Burton & Doyle, Great Neck; The Sexy Salad of Hauppauge; Porto Vivo, Huntington; Heineken; Southampton Publick House; Starfish Junction Productions; Castello di Borghese Vineyard and Winery, Cutchogue; Lenz Vineyard and Winery, Peconic; and Event Kings, Deer Park.
About Island Harvest
Fighting hunger and touching lives, Island Harvest serves as the bridge between those who have surplus food and those who need it, supplying hundreds of community-based nonprofit organizations on Long Island with critical food support to help stem the advancing tide of hunger in our communities. Island Harvest has delivered more than 60 million pounds of food, supplementing nearly 47 million meals, since its inception in 1992. In support of its mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island, the organization is actively involved in educational and hunger awareness programs to inform the public about the insidious but often unrecognized problem of hunger here, in one of the wealthiest regions of the country, and how individuals, businesses, schools and commercial food establishments can make a difference. Island Harvest is a member of Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest).
