habitat.jpg(Bellport, N.Y.) Women volunteers from all over Long Island including associates from Lowe’s stores will be on hand to dedicate the 131st  Habitat Suffolk home for Yolanda Rountree and her two children at 940 Taylor Ave., Bellport. The ceremony will begin at 11:30 am.

Lowe’s underwrites the Habitat for Humanity Women Build program, bringing women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills and then use those skills to be part of the solution to poverty housing. Lowe’s provided a $50,000 grant to sponsor the Rountree home.

Yolanda Rountree is a hard working single parent with two children, Michael, 12, and Amiya, 9. Rountree has two jobs. She is employed as a cook and a receptionist.  The family’s journey has been a difficult one.  They have moved five times in the past eight years and have lived in unsafe, unhealthy and cramped quarters, according to Les Scheinfeld, Associate Director for HFHS.   “We will be forever grateful to each and every person who had anything to do with making our dream become our reality,” said Rountree.

In addition to Lowe’s, Habitat Suffolk receives support from The Roslyn Savings Foundation for the Women Build program.

Lowe’s is a proud supporter of Habitat for Humanity International, American Red Cross, United Way of America, and the Home Safety Council, in addition to numerous non-profit organizations and programs that help communities across the country.  In 2008, Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation together contributed more than $25 million to support community and education projects in the United States and Canada. Lowe’s also encourages volunteerism through the Lowe’s Heroes program, a company-wide employee volunteer initiative.  Lowe’s is a FORTUNE® 50 company with fiscal year 2008 sales of $48.2 billion and has more than 1,650 stores in the United States and Canada.  For more information, visit Lowes.com/community.
