Carrie Solages: Nominated and Shining
June 3, 2009
(Long Island, N.Y.) Carrie Solages has been very busy over the last few weeks. Nevertheless, this poses no issue for the democratic pick for Nassau County Clerk. “The young rising star of the Nassau County Democratic party,” as County Executive Tom Suozzi describes Solages, has far more than embraced the action packed road that leads to November 3.
On the early evening of May 19, the last rays of the setting sun shone brightly over RexCorp Plaza and the many guests that had gathered to bear witness to the special announcement of Chairman Jay Jacobs and County Executive Suozzi. The County Executive quelled concerns and restored confidence in the crowd when he confirmed his run for re-election. After presenting the two incumbent Countywide Democratic Candidates, District Attorney Kathleen Rice and Comptroller Howard Weitzman, Chairman Jacobs and Executive Suozzi declared Carrie Solages as the party’s choice for Nassau County Clerk. Solages, humbled with gratitude, captured the crowd of Suozzi loyalists when he accepted the offering with confidence and vitality.
Dedicated and determined, Solages held his first major fundraiser at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Uniondale on May 26. The words spoken by Honored Guest Executive Suozzi captivated and inspired a room filled with a “who’s who” of Nassau County Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike. Suozzi admitted his excitement to have Solages run with him at the top of the ticket this upcoming election. Gazing out over the sea of faces that shared his company, the County Executive remarked on Solages’ ability to bring together family, friends, well known political players and fresh faced new comers, all over the common objective of offering their full, unequivocal support of his candidacy for County Clerk.
The week culminated on Thursday, May 28, at the Nassau County Democratic Party’s Annual Convention. It was there that Chairman Jay Jacobs formally nominated Carrie Solages as the democratic candidate for Clerk. The audience of committee members overwhelmingly confirmed the nomination under the vaulted glass wall of the Cradle of Aviation Museum. As the poised Solages took his place on the stage next to his luminary incumbent counterparts District Attorney Rice and Comptroller Weitzman, the words of Executive Suozzi were reflected by this real life image: the star has risen.
