(Mineola, N.Y.) Each year, over 6,000 people attend the I-CON Science Fiction/Fantasy Fair, which will be held at the Brentwood Campus of Suffolk Community College (Exit 53 South off the Long Island Expressway) April 3rd through April 5th. The event is a three day festival designed to encourage literacy, creativity and interest in science and technology through science fiction and related genres. Guest speakers are invited from around the world to share their experiences in their fields, information about any new or upcoming projects and their insights into the genre with their fans. Over the course of the convention, guests participate in panel discussions, give workshops and demonstrations, sign autographs, and interact with their fans on a one on one basis in such venues as the Awards Banquet.
To benefit a Long Island charity, every year I-CON holds a charity auction where celebrity guests and others donate items to be sold, ranging from autographed pictures to movie props to books to very unusual stuff. Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization, will benefit from this year’s charity auction. To support Island Harvest in its fight against hunger on Long Island, it might be easiest to make a monetary contribution or bring supermarket gift cards. Canned and other non-perishable food items are welcomed if you can fit them in your shuttlecraft.
Tickets for the I-CON Science Fiction/Fantasy Fair for the full three-day convention are $55 for adults, $48 for students and $17 for children between the age of six and 12. Children under six are admitted free. One day admissions are available, too. For more information, visit: www.iconsf.org.

About Island Harvest
Fighting hunger and touching lives, Island Harvest serves as the bridge between those who have surplus food and those who need it, supplying hundreds of community-based nonprofit organizations on Long Island with critical food support to help stem the advancing tide of hunger in our communities. Island Harvest has delivered 57 million pounds of food, supplementing more than 44 million meals, since its inception in 1992. In support of its mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island, the organization is actively involved in educational and hunger awareness programs to inform the public about the insidious but often unrecognized problem of hunger here, in one of the wealthiest regions of the country, and how individuals, businesses, schools and commercial food establishments can make a difference. Island Harvest is a member of Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest). For more information about Island Harvest, visit www.islandharvest.org or call 516-294-8528.
