lawyers.jpg(Long Island, N.Y.) The Garden City-based law office headed by Michael L. Pfeifer has announced that Dorothy E. Gozdziak, Esq. and Ryan C. Smith have joined the staff as Of Council and Assistant, respectively. The Law Office of Michael L. Pfeifer, P.C. concentrates in the areas of elder law, special needs planning and estate planning.

A resident of Long Island, Dorothy E. Gozdziak, Esq. received her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 2007, where she was a member of the Dean’s List and an academic scholarship recipient. Ms. Gozdziak was admitted to the New York Bar in February 2008. Her professional experience includes contract and estate matters, including Will contest case work; drafting estate planning documents; medical malpractice litigation, matrimonial law; landlord/tenant cases; and extensive legal research. While a law student, Ms. Gozdziak was a legal intern in Lansing, Michigan for Sixty Plus, Inc., Elderlaw Clinic, where she counseled clients and spearheaded an information session at Michigan State University for the community. She also acted as a legislative assistant for Assemblyman William Parment in Albany during the 2003 legislative session. Ms. Gozdziak received her undergraduate degree in political science and sociology from Stony Brook University, where she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta, Phi Sigma Alpha and Golden Key International Honor Societies.

A student at Hofstra University with an expected graduation date of 2010 and a resident of South Ozone Park, Ryan C. Smith has his eye on continuing his education as a law student. Mr. Smith handles a wide range of duties at the law firm. Answering telephones, scheduling appointments, filing, scanning, greeting clients, setting up client files and performing data entry, Mr. Smith is learning the legal ropes from the ground up. At Hofstra, he majors in political science and minors in legal studies in business. He is a member of the African People Organization, NAACP, and Youth Against Sickle Cell Anemia. In addition to his duties at the law firm, Mr. Smith is a member of the events management team at Hofstra that organizes national and international conferences and providing hospitality for conference guests. On a completely different note, Mr. Smith is a certified entry level architect.
