Silverman Media & Marketing Group & Island Harvest Team Up to Launch Month-Long Food Drive for Long Island’s Neediest
(Woodbury, N.Y.) As long-time supporters and volunteers for Island Harvest, a 26-year-old not-for-profit agency whose mission is end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island, Woodbury-based Silverman Media&Marketing Group (SMMG) has created and initiated a canned food drive throughout Long Island, utilizing their offices as the drop off location.
SMMG - - which was founded in 1996 but whose Head Coach/President, Ira H. Silverman of Bellmore, NY, has worked with Island Harvest since 1982 - - provides its clients with public relations, marketing, special event, celebrity representation, charitable foundation and creative services, as well as a new experts’ speakers & writers bureau.

Everyone who contributes one or more cans of food on any one visit will have an opportunity to fill out a free raffle ticket to win one of four valuable prizes:
- 1st Prize: Lunch at Mim’s Restaurant in Syosset with News 12 Long Island’s Sports Producer/Anchor Michael Coleman.
- 2nd Prize: A Holiday Platter from Quagliata Brothers Italian Deli & Caterers of Smithtown.
- 3rd Prize: Your choice from among seven H&K Limited-Edition Steel Sculpture Wine Caddies.
- 4th Prize: A set of four autographed baseball cards, including Hall of Famers Duke Snider, Bob Feller and Ernie Bank, plus NY Mets’ legend Tug McGraw.
Canned food may be dropped off at SMMG’s offices between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays - - except on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 - - from now through Monday, December 22, 2008. Raffle prize winners will be picked on the morning of December 23, and will be notified that same day.
ABOUT ISLAND HARVEST
Fighting hunger and touching lives, Island Harvest - - Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization - - serves as the bridge between those who have surplus food and those who need it. The group’s volunteers and staff “rescue,” or collect, good surplus food from more than 600 local restaurants, caterers, farms and other food-related businesses; and distribute it to a network of close to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries, and other places where those in need can access it. The agency also conducts educational programs to increase hunger awareness and inform the public how they can get involved in its mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island.
