County Chairs come together with Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm A. Smith to support a Democratic Senate Majority

county_leader.jpg(New York, NY)- With just over 1 week until Election Day, Democratic County Chairs joined Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm A. Smith and members of the Democratic Conference on the steps of City Hall to show their support for a Democratic Majority.
Democrats across the state are united behind the candidates who will end the Republicans 40 year history of failure in the Senate and bring the real economic change we need to get New York working again.

The highest taxes in the nation, a record budget shortfall and out-of-control spending are all part of the Republican mess in Albany. After nearly 4 decades of Republicans protecting their special interest friends instead of middle income people, Election Day can’t come soon enough for voters who want change.

Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm A. Smith: For 40 years, the Republican Senate has failed to meet the needs of working-class New Yorkers. Their time is up. The voters want change. Why? Because they can’t afford another 2 years of Republican failure. A Democratic Majority will rebuild New York by reducing property taxes, creating jobs and slashing wasteful spending.”

New York Democratic Party Chairwoman, June O’Neil: “Across the state, our candidates are running strong and in position to regain the majority on Election Day. 40 years of failure is enough. The voters want change; they want a Democratic Majority who will rebuild New York and get our state back on track.”

Kings County Chair, Assemblyman Vito Lopez: “Turnout for us will be unprecedented this election. Across this state — from Brooklyn to Batavia — registrations for the Democrats has spiked because voters want leadership that promotes middle-class family values, and opportunities for the hard-working men and women of New York.”

Suffolk County Chair, Rich Schaffer: “Republicans no longer have a stranglehold on Suffolk County because voters want reform-minded leaders, and change is coming their way. Brian Foley will deliver on the issues that matter to the people of the 3rd Senate District – rising property taxes, out of control energy costs, and spiking healthcare costs.”

Nassau County Chair, Jay Jacobs: “Under the Republican leadership, the Senate Majority has wasted millions of tax dollars on pet projects and squandered resources that could have been put to better use for the people of New York. We need strong leaders who will hold Albany accountable to the people of Nassau County.  No one is better prepared to do so than Senator Craig Johnson and Kristen McElroy. They will help reduce wasteful spending and demand fiscal responsibility to get our state back on track.”

Westchester County Chair, Reginald La Fayette: “The national fiscal crisis and the budget shortfall here in New York demand leaders who understand sound economic policies to move us forward. In Westchester, we’re proud to have Suzi Oppenheimer and Andrea Stewart-Cousins fighting for us every day to safeguard education funding for our schools, protect resources for small businesses and promote environmental-friendly initiatives.”

Erie County Chair, Len Lenihan: “We need leaders in Albany who will stand up to business as usual. Joe Mesi and Bill Stachowski have proven they will fight for the people of Western NY — from protecting homeowners to delivering jobs through the Delaware North deal to, Mesi and Stachowski have been out front to deliver what our communities need most.”

Queens County Chair, Congressman Joe Crowley: “The Senate Republican Majority has put partisan politics above people time and time again. The Republican legacy has left us with a $6 billion budget shortfall, rising property taxes and out of control spending. Voters deserve better than this.  And when they elect Joe Addabbo and Jim Gennaro on November 4th, they will elect leaders who fight for their interest above the special interests.”

Greene County Chair, Tom Poelker: “The best political observers are watching the legislative races across this state, which has led the nation on government reform. When the Democrats gain control of the State Senate, it is the people who will win — a government that is more open and fair.”

Albany County Chair, Dan McCoy: “The way Senate Republicans conduct the people’s business has led to the most dysfunctional government in the nation. Albany needs leaders who believe in the democratic process where voters have their say.
When we win the Majority this election, Senate Democrats will restore integrity in government by giving it back to the people.”

Monroe County Chair, Assemblyman Joe Morelle: “Throughout their 40 years of controlling the State Senate, Republicans have failed to meet the needs of working families Upstate and across New York. We have rising property taxes, failing schools, increased deficits and fewer jobs. Rick Dollinger and a Democratic Majority will bring the change we need to get New York working again.”
