Top 12 Finalists Named for Third Annual New York Songwriters Circle Contest

Finalist to Perform Live November 5th and 6th at the Bitter End in New York
(New York, N.Y.) The New York Songwriters Circle (http://www.songwriters-circle.com) and its panel of industry professionals reviewed thousands of song submissions for its third annual songwriting contest and have narrowed the field of performers and songs down to 12 finalists. On the evening of November 5th and the 6th the finalists will all perform their songs LIVE at the venerable Bitter End in New York’s Greenwich Village before a panel of judges including producer Russ Titleman and critic Neil Rosen to determine this years Grand Prize winner. The 12 finalists are as follows:

- Seth Glier - The Trouble With People – Boston, MA
- Rachel Garlin - Decisions And Desires – New York
- Hillary Johnson – Naked – New York
- Jen Foster - Venice Beach – Nashville, TN
- John Schmitt – Ophelia – New York
- Chris Ayer – Awake – New York
- Mieka Pauley - All The Same Mistakes – Cambridge, MA
- Gillian Grassie - Silken String – Philadelphia, PA
- Nick Howard - Better Man – New York
- Ruut - Year In California – Baltimore, MD
- Mark D. Conklin – High, New Jersey
“There were so many incredible songs submitted this year,” said Tina Shafer, Artistic Director of the New York Songwriters Circle.
“This was truly the hardest screening process we have had in our company’s history. Anyone who attends our live performances at the Bitter End or just picks up the upcoming compilation CD will fall in love with these performers and their outstanding songs.”
This year’s Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000 in cash, performance spots at the world renowned Madison Square Garden arena and with the Live Nation – Jones Beach Concert Series, a recording session with Grammy award winning producer Glenn Barett and also a feature spot on Jonathan Clarke’s highly rated “Out of the Box” radio show on New York’s most popular classic Rock station, Q104.3. Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Marc Cohn and Indie music sensation Dave Barnes will be special guests at the 2008 contest live finale event, November 6th, 2008 at the Bitter End, NYC.
The New York Songwriters Circle contest annually gives performers the rare opportunity to perform their music live in front of top music industry professionals and excited music fans as part of the New York Songwriters Circle’s ongoing showcases series in Philadelphia (at World Café Live), Boston (at Johnny D’s in Somerville), and the legendary Bitter End in New York’s Greenwich Village. Past contest winners include Kate Voegele and “Company of Thieves,” (recently featured as a breaking artist on Billboard Magazine).
