island_harvest.jpg (Mineola, N.Y.) Everybody’s favorite fruit and produce maven, Weekend Today on WNBC’s Produce Pete, will demonstrate how to take the mystery out of choosing and using fruits and vegetables at Island Harvest’s 15th annual “Taste of the Harvest Celebration.” In addition, the ever-popular KJOY 98.3 radio morning talk show hosts Jim Douglas and Kim Berk, will once again provide their expert skills and playful banter as emcees at Long Island’s leading fundraising event.

To be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY, the “Taste of the Harvest Celebration” will showcase over thirty tasting stations from Long Island’s best-known restaurants, caterers, country clubs and other fine food establishments, featuring an impressive array of gourmet delights that is sure to please even the most discriminating palates. A silent auction, with scores of exciting merchandise, sports memorabilia, exciting vacation trips and more will coincide with the tasting.

Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization, will also use this special occasion to honor two exceptional Long Island business leaders for their longtime support in the fight against hunger.

Lewis S. Ranieri, a Merrick resident and chairman of Ranieri Partners Management LLC, will receive Island Harvest’s prestigious “Above and Beyond Award,” which recognizes individuals or organizations dedicated to extraordinary service in helping fight hunger. This year’s “Linda Breitstone Spirit Award” will be bestowed on Eric Kanterman of Poughquag, NY, who, as regional vice president of Pathmark Operations for A&P Family of Supermarkets, has led A&P’s commitment to our Turkey and Trimming Collection Campaign. The award, named for Island Harvest’s founder, personifies individuals whose passion, determination and hard work have made a positive difference in the lives of neighbors struggling with adversity.

Tickets for the “Taste of the Harvest Celebration” are $295.00 each with proceeds going to help fight hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island.
