PULSE of NY, Inc. Awarded $25,000 Grant from Wal-Mart Foundation to Support Patient Advocacy and Education

(Wantagh, N.Y.) The Wal-Mart Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to PULSE of NY, Inc. to help support community-based patient safety advocacy and education.
“We are extremely grateful to Wal-Mart for recognizing the importance of patient education,” said Ilene Corina, President of PULSE of NY. “Patient education and quality care through partnership is our priority and Wal-Mart is helping to make that happen.”
The non-profit PULSE of NY, based in Wantagh on Long Island, raises awareness about patient safety and reducing medical errors through advocacy, education, and support. The agency works to empower the public to make informed decisions, increase effective communication and respect between healthcare providers and the public, and creates community partnerships that foster safer healthcare environments. “I am pleased Wal-Mart realizes the need for patient safety and has made this funding available to PULSE, which is such an important part of the community of patient advocates. Together, we are working to make healthcare more patient-centered and patient-friendly,” said state Sen. Kemp Hannon, Chair of the Senate Health Committee, at a ceremony at the Wal-Mart in Farmingdale on Monday (Sept. 29).
“Wal-Mart and Sam’s Clubs of New York are proud to provide this grant to PULSE of NY, which plays such a key role throughout the state in raising awareness about patient safety,” said Philip Serghini, Senior Manager of Public Affairs for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
The grant was made possible through the Wal-Mart Foundation’s State Giving Program. Through this program, the Wal-Mart Foundation awards grants at the state and regional levels to support unmet needs in areas of focus such as: Education, Job Skills Training, Environmental Sustainability and Health.
