A visibly shaken Andy Pettitte, the left-handed starting pitcher for the New York Yankees apologized relentlessly to the game itself and the fans who looks up to him as a sporting hero for his implications in the Mitchell report which named him as part of a group of players involved in taking Performance enhancing drugs naming HGH [Human Growth Hormone].

“I want to apologize to the New York Yankees’ and to the Houston Astros’ organizations and to their fans and to all my teammates and to all of baseball fans for the embarrassment I have caused them,” he said. “I also want to tell anyone that is an Andy Pettitte fan I am sorry, especially any kids that might look up to me.”

Earlier in the month, Pettitte faced the senate in a hearing in accordance with the allegations levied against him and other baseball players including teammate and best friend Roger Clemens of the Yankees. Clemens a 7-time CY young winner vehemently denied the charges and was surprised to hear Pettitte corroborate to the claims of accuser, former trainer Brian McNamee, when Pettitte decided to spell out the truth and admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs on the ‘99 and 00′ season along with Clemens. Since then, the two have not spoken and their relationship bears a recognizable damage.

“Obviously it’s put a strain, I think, on our friendship,” Pettitte said. “I love him like a brother. I felt like I need to come out, be forward with this whatever circumstances or repercussions come with it, I’ll take it like a man and I’ll try to do my job.”

Andy Pettitte started his playing career with the Yankees as a rookie on the ‘95 season. He played with New York until the 2004 when he became a free agent and decided to play three years with the Houston Astros. On 2007, Pettitte decided to rejoin his old ball club and returned to New York. He has won 4 championships with the Yankees. Pettitte ranks among the best pitchers in the game statistically. He is also one of only 4 active players along with Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens with at least 180 wins, 1,700 strikeouts, and a winning percentage at or above .640.
