Ron Paul Places Second in Nevada Caucus

January 20, 2008

ronpaul.jpg(Long Island, N.Y.) Ron Paul, the ten-term Republican congressman from Texas finished second in the Nevada Caucus for the GOP nominations which was said to be a key state for both the GOP and the Democratic Party candidates bid for the Oval Office. He finished ahead of John McCain, Fred Thompson and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani by gathering 6,084 votes or roughly 14% of the turnout for the Republican Primary. Mitt Romney won with 22,644 votes.

Ron Paul started the campaign in a relatively low key fashion and struggled early in the Iowa and the New Hampshire Primary where he was relatively inactive and finished fourth in both states. His efforts though have slowly picked up steam as more supporters surfaced to give Paul a political boost. Ron Paul leads all candidates in Internet Searches on internet web sites like Yahoo, Google and Youtube. He also has recorded the largest single day fundraiser in U.S. political history last December when he raised over $6 million in 24 hours through his campaign web site. His Nevada result will certainly serve notice to the rest of the Republican nominees as a threat in their Party’s Presidential nomination. He is primarily viewed by many as a conservative, Constitutionalist, and libertarian. He advocates a non-interventionist foreign policy, having voted against actions such as the Iraq War Resolution, but in favor of force against terrorists in Afghanistan.

Overall, he has taken a more active role in his campaign and the results have been positive. In a gathering of supporters, he spoke about Martin Luther King’s legacyTo me, the timing is more than a coincidence. The American people, regardless of color or creed, have the opportunity to choose a candidate who will uplift the ideals for which Dr. King fought–and died. The fight for freedom–the preservation of our civil rights–is the fight of our lives. Sadly, after Dr. King’s passing we are faced with a violation of our civil rights in the same vein as Jim Crow: The Patriot Act. I have stood against this and all unconstitutional violations of American’s civil rights, and will continue Dr. King’s charge as President.” His speech was to commemorate the birthday of the Dr. King on January 15th.

The next primary will be in Florida on January 29th where polling results have John McCain as the early favorite and Rudy Giuliani placing second. Fresh from his silver win in Nevada, Ron Paul should also be a key factor in the Florida primary for the Republicans as Paul’s grassroots campaign continues to move closer to the frontline.

Thankyou for an informative and fair article on Ron Paul.

The New York Times mentioned Mitt Romney winning and McCain coming in third in Nevada. But they gave no acknowledgement what so ever of Ron Paul.
And Ron Paul voted against the war. All of the others voted for it.

Wow. You people have a lot more to be proud of than the Times.

Thanks for speaking out for the little guy.

Great little article, nice to see a journalist finally shed some light on Ron Paul, instead of ignoring him. Why are people still reporting on Rudy!?

Fair and balanced coverage. If the Main Stream Media(whatever that means) is so opposed to Ron Paul they should be honest enough to give him unbiased coverage and ask the question:- Why not vote for Ron Paul? But we know any one with a little time can find the answer to that question so they just censor the readership instead. There is no reason not to vote for Ron Paul unless you have an anti-american/constitutional agenda.

Ron Paul deserve a better media coverage. It’s a good thing that, at least one candidate (herefore Ron Paul), reminds to everyone the existence of the Constitution. The latter is sufficient to govern the country with wisedom and efficiency.

Thank you for telling Long Islanders about Ron Paul where there is a media blackout with Newsday, Fox News, WABC Radio….the biased MSM is showing it’s colors. Just research who owns them. Ron Paul wants to see an end to the War and bring life back to our economy. Obvioulsly those with an agenda do not which is why they are ignoring Ron Paul.

Thank you for an informative article on Ron Paul. His ideas of change and bucking the status quo apparently frightens some people. I think change has become an empty jingle for the other candidates. It sounds good, but they really cannot envision it.

What truly frightens me? The overall blatant manipulation by a good portion of the big media controlling this election; with a few exceptions, i.e. Tim Russert commenting twice on Paul not being so easily dismissed and Wolf Blitzer’s past coverage. I’ve heard several supporters of other candidates remark on how obvious and eerie it has become and how it’s making them feel a little dirty voting for their candidate. It’s not just the voters for Ron Paul who have noticed it.

How difficult is it to make an effort to point out the fact that Ron Paul came in second in Nevada? I’ve read in a few blogs where anti-Ron Paul people have said that “Nevada doesn’t count.” That is shocking, as Nevada is one of our 50 states; yep, just shocking for Americans to voice the people of Nevada’s vote “doesn’t count.”

This the closest I’ve seen to real objective journalsim when it comes to Ron Paul . I have been very disappointed at how most media outlets seem to intentionally focus on ignoring Ron Paul if possible - and when they do print or report a story that runs for any length of time, it sure isn’t positive.
It doesn’t matter though. The revolution has too much momentum now. An idea is unstoppable. thankyou for your straight forward reporting. I’m a die hard Ron Paul supporter - but I don’t want favoritism. Just journalism like this would give freedom and REAL change a better chance.

    RON PAUL FOR PRES!!!

Ron Paul gives America a chance to stop our decline. It will still take work - with Congress.

We can choose liberty, or we can choose more socialism. America, it is our choice. I choose liberty and Ron Paul.

Perhaps one reason Ron Paul gets so little mention is that “non-interventionist foreign policy.” The bureaucracies that provide normal coverage have a great deal to lose if America returns to its constitutional roots.

“It is our true policy to steer clear of entangling alliances with any portion of the foreign world. The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible.” - George Washington
