Trump Goes Green at Long Island’s Jones Beach Restaurant

January 3, 2008

donald_trump.jpg(Long Island, N.Y.) Donald Trump knows a bit about real estate and how to make a buck or two. That’s why when he decided to build a restaurant at Long Island’s Jones Beach you can bet his main motivation was money.

However, the American real estate billionaire has promised to not only seek the green from a cash standpoint but also an environmental standpoint with his new restaurant “Trump on the Ocean”. Trump has stated that he would ensure the project was certified for its green aspects and its energy efficiency.

Making this decision was nothing less than outstanding marketing, and Trump surely knows that going green with this new project is not only great for the environment but it’s just plain good business.

In 2007 there were many environmentally conscious construction projects taking place on Long Island, and 2008 is likely to see more of the same thanks to high-energy costs, tax incentives, and environmental education.

There is a lot of effort that goes into green construction, but it is certainly worthwhile. Water and energy use are reduced with conservation, materials used in these buildings are renewable, environmental, and/or recycled.

Long Island has seen its fair share of green construction. That’s because companies want to buy buildings that are built with the environment in mind. And frankly, why wouldn’t they do so? It provides for “Green Benefits”. It helps the adverse affects on the environment while property owners see benefits from green construction. For example, green buildings have better energy efficiency; and are easier to heat and cool. More tenants are interested in being in this type of building despite the higher cost.

Green construction also has the benefit of tax breaks. New York State made $25 million in tax breaks available for this type of construction in 2007. Many applications were received hoping to receive a piece of this green pie.

Long Island is a long way from being completely green, but the good news isn’t far as more and more new buildings are being constructed using green methods, and the future is likely to be even greener.
