Searchen Networks Inc Offers Extended Validation Certificates

November 15, 2007

searchen.gifWest Babylon New York (11/15/07) – Searchen Networks Inc, a Long Island based information technology company, announced today that new Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates are available for sale and ready to install.  An SSL Certificate is a digital credential that authenticates the identity of a Web site and encrypts information via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology.

Created to establish online business identities, enable secure connections and promote online consumer confidence, EV SSLs set a higher standard for secure and successful online businesses.  Like Turbo SSL® and High Assurance SSLs offered by Searchen Networks Inc, the new EV SSL offers industry-leading 256-bit encryption technology.  A thorough, standardized verification process affords EV SSL owners an opportunity to tout completion of the most stringent vetting process for SSL encryption available today.

The EV SSL vetting process involves verifying the applying organization’s identity and typically requires a letter from a representing attorney or accountant.  While the new guidelines are strict, Searchen Networks Inc EV SSL certificates can be issued within two to four hours after all required documentation is received.

When users access sites encrypted with EV SSLs using Internet Explorer® 7, the first browser to distinguish EV certificates, the site’s secure status is immediately evident.  The browser’s address bar reflects a green background and the name of the organization to which the certificate was issued, along with the familiar https:// prefix and padlock icon.  Other browsers currently handle EV SSLs like normal certificates and are expected to distinguish them soon.

For more information about the new EV SSL Certificates, visit https://www.securepaynet.net/gdshop/ssl/ssl.asp?prog_id=searchen

Golf Fitness Experts at Body Balance New York Help Students Improve Game and Lifestyle

golf-ball.jpg(PRWEB) November 14, 2007 — Body Balance for Performance of New York has always believed the body to be a golfer’s most important piece of equipment. Thanks to this unique approach, students are seeing significant improvement in their golf swing and their overall performance.

“Our golf professionals and fitness experts team up to deliver complete screenings and suggest interventions to enhance health, prevent and treat injury, and improve skills and technique,” said John M. Winget, PT, GPS, DPT, of Body Balance for Performance of New York (http://westchester.fitgolf.com). “Our aim is to directly improve performance in golf.”

The New York Body Balance philosophy has helped many golfers improve their game and lifestyle, even for golfers who aren’t dedicated to working out.

“When I started working with [Body Balance, I did not know what to expect,” said David Osborne, a student of Body Balance of New York. “While a golfer for many years, I had never really worked out and had no inclination to do so. But I was convinced that improving my body was the only way to improve my game.”

Osborne started with the Body Balance system and quickly saw results. “I now can hit the golf ball farther and more consistently,” said Osborne. “My iron play is much crisper, and I now can hit more than 50 percent GIR.”

The Body Balance of New York helped Osborne improve more than just his golf game. He also lost three inches from his waist and experiences fewer back aches than before.

“At my 20th business school reunion, I was told that I should get the Jack LaLanne award for being so fit,” Osborne said. “At 49, I am in my best shape ever.”

Ron Paul Surges Ahead of Thompson; Tied With McCain

November 15, 2007

ron-paul-presidential.jpgWEST BABYLON, NEW YORK — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is gaining momentum in New Hampshire and Iowa, according to a poll released Tuesday by CBS News and the New York Times.  The Texas congressman has garnered an estimated 8 percent in New Hampshire, surpassing former GOP front-runner Fred Thompson, and is now tied with John McCain in Iowa.

Polls released over the weekend by the Boston Globe in association with the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, and the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, both confirmed Congressman Paul’s support to be higher than Thompson’s as well.

“The polls confirm what we already know: Congressman Paul is catching on in the early primary states,” said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton.  “His unifying message of freedom, peace, and prosperity is resonating strongly with voters in Iowa and New Hampshire, and we’re rapidly gaining support nationwide.”

The CBS-New York Times poll was conducted November 2-12.  On November 5, the Ron Paul campaign brought in a record-breaking $4.2 million online, and an additional $1 million to end the week.

Controversial Breast Augmentation Technique Yields Excellent Results

November 15, 2007

Dr. George Bitar’s technique of performing breast augmentation by inserting a saline implant through a small armpit incision behind the muscle without the use of any endoscopic equipment is controversial. However, Bitar, who has performed over 200 such procedures, argues that his results are excellent, and that his complications rates are lower than the reported national rates.

gi_picpsp2005_jpg.jpg(PRWEB) November 14, 2007 — The article written by Northern Virginia plastic surgeon, Dr. George Bitar entitled: “Breast Augmentation: The Axillary Approach” was published in the October issue of Plastic Surgery Products Magazine. The article focuses on performing breast augmentation by inserting a saline implant through a small armpit incision behind the muscle without the use of any endoscopic equipment.

While this technique is considered controversial by many, Bitar, who has performed over 200 such breast augmentations, argues that his results are excellent.

“There were no implant infections, high-riding implants, double-bubble signs (implant bulging below the breast), pneumothoraces (lung deflation), cases of inability to breast-feed, permanent losses of nipple sensation, major medical complications, or deaths,” he states. “My rate of capsular contracture (a condition where scar tissue accumulation around the implant hardens the breast causing an unnatural look) is 1%,” he adds.

Prospective studies of saline-filled breast implants approved by FDA in May 2000 showed rates of significant capsular contracture of 9% at 3 years and 10-11% at 5 years for augmentation patients. The general consensus is that infection with breast augmentation occurs in about 1-2% of patients.

While Bitar’s technique yields many advantages including shorter intra-operative time, minimal bleeding, less trauma, scarring, pain, and bruising; and a shorter recovery time with minimal complications, his technique has a few minor disadvantages. These include: an evident 2 cm scar under the armpit for the first few months after surgery before it fades, inability to remove the implant through the same axillary incision in case future surgery is required, and finally, the risk of loss of sensation in a small area of the axilla if a nerve is injured.

Multiple before and after pictures of patients who underwent axillary breast augmentation along with the complete version of the article can be found on Dr. Bitar’s website at www.DrBitar.com.

George Bitar, MD http://www.drbitar.co is a board certified plastic surgeon and medical director of the Bitar Cosmetic Surgery Institute, a multi-location institute in Northern Virginia. The article was co-written by Mr. Vinod Chopra, a medical student at the George Washington University who interned at the Bitar Cosmetic Surgery Institute.

Holiday Jazz on 34th Street, Featuring New York’s Onaje Allan Gumbs and South Africa’s Hotep Idris Galeta

November 15, 2007

Jazz for the Holidays - Cape Town Jazz comes to New York City as South African jazz pianist Hotep Idris Galeta joins New York jazz pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs in a three-day series of concerts at New York’s Shutters Cafe.

onajebest0241.jpgNew York, NY (PRWEB) November 14, 2007 — New York and South Africa unite for the Holidays as Bronx-based pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs and South African pianist Hotep Idris Galeta pair up for three unique duo concerts December 13-15 at Shutters Cafe in New York, melding the American and South African jazz traditions in a one-of-a-kind series, presented by Inja Yami Production and Rose Petal Entertainment with support from A.C. Pianocraft.

On Thursday, December 13, the two pianists perform together without accompaniment, presenting their own highly original brands of jazz compositions. On Friday, December 14, the legendary South African jazz vocalist Sathima Bea Benjamin joins the two pianists, performing an elegant jazz set with bassist Marcus McLaurine, and drummer George Gray. The series closes when saxophonist TK Blue and percussionist Bujo Kevin Jones join the group for a full-band jam on Saturday, December 15.

Harlem-born and Queens-raised, jazz pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs has enjoyed a career as first-call sideman, valued arranger and composer, producer, bandleader, and recording artist. Many will remember his vital contributions to such Woody Shaw classics as Moontrane and Rosewood, to which he lent his composing and arranging skills. Still others will recall his work as producer and arranger for vocal dates led by Marlena Shaw; or perhaps his sideman contributions to dates with an impressive range of artists - from Kenny Burrell and Nat Adderley, to Ronald Shannon Jackson, to Jonathan Butler. Onaje’s soundtrack writing includes Danny Glover’s Showtime film Override, and his composition “Dare to Dream” was a theme for a Panasonic awards presentation. In 2006, Onaje was nominated for an NAACP Image Award as Outstanding Jazz Artist. His most recent album, Sack Full of Dreams, has garnered critical acclaim and proven to be a jazz radio favorite, and features the vocal work of esteemed film and stage actor Obba Babatunde.

Hotep Idris Galeta was born in Crawford, Cape Town and grew up exposed to the rich music culture in and around the city. After meeting Abdullah Ibrahim, then known as Dollar Brand, at a high school jazz concert, the two became close friends and Brand became Hotep’s mentor. Hotep, or as he was known in the 50’s, Cecil Barnard, went on to establish himself as one of the young emerging pianists on the Cape Town Jazz scene. Hotep left South Africa in 1961 for London and then New York, remaining in exile for thirty years, during which he worked with jazz figures such as Jackie McLean, Woody Shaw, Elvin Jones, and Archie Shepp. He was appointed lecturer in Jazz studies to the University of Hartford’s Hartt College of Music in 1985. This position continued until his return to South Africa in 1991. In 2003, Hotep released the critically acclaimed solo album Malay Tone Poem, recorded with some of South Africa’s rising jazz stars including Marcus Wyatt and Zim Ngqawana. Hotep currently manages the Resource Centre at Artscape Performing Arts Theatre Complex in Cape Town, South Africa, and also co-ordinates the Jazz Performance and Community Outreach Jazz Education programs there, and also teaches at Fort Hare University.

Tanger Outlet Center at the Arches Secures the First Neiman Marcus Last Call Store on Long Island

November 15, 2007

tanger.jpgBABYLON, New York, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ — Neiman Marcus has leased 32,000 square feet for its first Long Island Last Call store at the Tanger Outlet Center at the Arches, an 800,000-square-foot entertainment, power and outlet center under development in Deer Park, in the town of Babylon, Long Island. The Arches is a joint venture between Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. (NYSE: SKT - News), Blumenfeld Development Group Ltd. and Apollo Real Estate Advisors.

The 81-acre project, located at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Commack Road in Deer Park, will offer a wide variety of fashion and lifestyle brands, along with restaurants and entertainment in a European-themed outdoor pedestrian center. A separate 120,000-square-foot wing, to be known as The Collection at the Arches, will be devoted solely to luxury brands. Anticipated completion for the center is summer 2008.

The Neiman Marcus Last Call store, the first and only on Long Island, will offer fashion and hard goods at outlet savings. Other tenants joining The Arches include Anne Klein, Banana Republic, BCBG, Christmas Tree Shops, Disney, Eddie Bauer, Reebok, New York Sports Club and many more. Regal Cinemas has also leased 71,000 square feet for a 16-screen cineplex, one of the few state of the art cineplexes on Long Island.

“We envision the Arches as a true one-stop shopping and entertainment destination,” said David Blumenfeld of Blumenfeld Development Group. “Nothing like it currently exists anywhere on Long Island today.”

The Arches will offer a sophisticated, metropolitan shopping experience. The Italian-style design for the $360 million open-air center provides for shops interspersed with restaurants and cafes, set on landscaped sidewalks and courtyards dotted with fountains and benches. Plans also call for an entertaining skating rink.

The Arches at Deer Park is centrally located just off the Sagtikos Parkway, Southern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway, and within two miles of the Long Island Railroad Deer Park train station. The center is just 45 minutes from Manhattan and the Hamptons. The site is adjacent to a Home Depot, Kohls and Stop & Shop.

“The Arches offers the appropriate setting for our debut Last Call store on Long Island,” said Wayne Hussey, Senior Vice President of Real Estate and Store Development of Neiman Marcus. “We were attracted by the center’s inviting look and feel, its mix of amenities and its highly desirable location on Long Island. We are excited about finally having a presence on Long Island and we are pleased to be entering our first Tanger center.”

“Neiman Marcus firmly positions the Arches as the strategic high-end value retail destination on Long Island. We’ve experienced brisk leasing activity and are very gratified with the robust response so far from leading retailers,” said Richard Mack, Apollo Managing Partner.

“With its unusual and handsome design, we intend for the Arches to create an enticing retail, dining and pedestrian environment, attracting upscale, affluent and discerning shoppers,” said Steve Tanger, President and Chief Operating Officer of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers.

LIPA’s Electric System Reliability Continues to Lead New York State

November 12, 2007

lipa.jpgUniondale, NY-November 12, 2007-The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is pleased to announce that LIPA leads New York State in key reliability indices for overhead electric transmission and distribution systems. LIPA continues to lead other New York electric utilities, with overhead systems, with the shortest customer average interruption duration index (CAIDI). In September, 2007, the average service restoration time for LIPA customers who experienced a service interruption was 71 minutes, which is significantly superior to the rest of the state which averaged 129 minutes. LIPA has been the state leader in this category for the last ten years.

“Since LIPA took over Long Island’s electric system in 1998, about $2.5 billion has been invested in the infrastructure which, in part, reflects the superior performance during last weekend’s storm,” said President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “We had fewer outages and a quicker recovery from Noel-related service interruptions caused by high wind gusts and sustained winds on the East End. Though service interruptions are unavoidable, LIPA is working hard to keep them to an absolute minimum and to restore them as quickly as possible when they do occur.”

The reliability of the LIPA transmission and distribution system (T&D) performed at an outstanding level. The frequency of electric service interruptions (SAIFI) was 14.1 months between interruptions on average. This is well ahead of the other New York state electric utilities with overhead systems, which average 11.0 months between interruptions.
