Three Straight Wins Sets Up Monday Night Match at Atlanta

eli.jpgAfter starting the season with two losses, the New York Giants looked like a team that had no chance to reach the playoffs. Their defense gave up chunks of yards to Dallas and Green Bay, while surrendering 80 points. With divisional games staring at them in the next two weeks, their season could have been over before October.

A second half comeback at Washington may have been the turning point in the Giants’ season if they go on to qualify for the postseason. They held the Redskins scoreless and made a statement by not letting the pressure get to them. Head coach Tom Coughlin, who has been criticized for not being able to hold the team together, made the proper halftime adjustments and his team took it a step further by totally dismantling Philadelphia a week later. The same defense that could not stop Tony Romo and Brett Favre sacked Eagles’ quarterback 13 times while holding them to three points. 

The Giants (3-2) went over the .500 mark last Sunday with a 35-24 win over their stadium counterparts, the Jets, who led by 10 points heading into the locker room. Running back Brandon Jacobs made his first appearance since injuring his knee in the opener and rushed for over 100 yards, fueling the comeback. Rookie cornerback Aaron Ross had two interceptions and ran one back for a touchdown to put the Jets away for good.
